SAN FRANCISCO – The No. 7 seeded City College of San Francisco women's basketball team is headed to the regional finals of the Northern California playoffs thanks to its 66-40 second-round victory over visiting No. 23 College of San Mateo on Saturday.
CCSF jumped out in front 20-8 after the first quarter, was up 31-16 at halftime, and was never challenged in the second half on its way to the rout. The Rams improved to 23-5 overall and have won five straight games.
Alexis Cornejo led the way, scoring a team-high 16 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Patriceia Walsh added 10 points and 7 boards while June Lumumba totaled 8 points and a team-best 10 rebounds for the Rams.
The Rams now head to No. 2 Folsom Lake College for a third-round Northern California Regionals playoff game on Saturday, March 7 at 7 p.m. The winner of the regional final matchup will advance to the 3C2A State Championships on March 12-15 at College of the Sequoias in Visalia.
CCSF is in search of its first-ever state championship and will look to return to the state tournament for the first time since 2017. The Rams were state championship runner up in 2011 and have reached the state tournament Final Four in 2010, 2011, 2016, and 2017.
No. 2 Folsom Lake was a 63-42 winner over No. 15 Los Medanos College in Saturday's second-round playoff contest. The Falcons are 27-2 overall and were Big 8 Conference champions.
CCSF and Folsom Lake will be facing off for the first time this season.
Other regional final matchups include No. 8 Sequoias at No. 1 San Joaquin Delta, No. 6 Butte at No. 3 Laney, and No. 5 Santa Rosa at No. 4 Fresno.
