SAN FRANCISCO – No. 16 state-ranked City College of San Francisco surged to its fourth straight win, a 24-9 National Bay 6 League victory over visiting Laney College on Saturday at George M. Rush Stadium.
The Rams improved to 6-2 overall and are unbeaten in the Bay 6 at 3-0.
A 21-point outburst in the second quarter proved to be the difference for CCSF as the Rams took advantage of a pair Laney turnovers to put up points.
With the score tied up at 3-3, the completed an 11-play, 79 yard drive that was closed out by a 17-yard touchdown run from Michael Dabney.
Laney fumbled the ball away on the ensuing drive, giving the Rams the ball back at their own 48-yard line. Four plays later, Darius Clark-James connected with Imari Conley for a 39-yard touchdown pass to give CCSF a 17-3 lead.
On Laney's first play of the next drive, quarterback DJ Duran's pass was intercepted by CCSF's Elijah Hughes. The Rams once again had the ball at midfield and marched their way down for another score. This time, Donte Johnson ran in for the TD from two yards out to extend CCSF's advantage to 24-3.
Laney (1-7, 0-3 Bay 6) scored late in the second quarter before the game turned into a defensive battle over the final half. Neither team could get much going as the two squads combined for nine punts the rest of the way.
CCSF totaled 408 yards of offense, led by Clark-James. He completed 21 of 26 passes for 194 yards with a touchdown and interception. Clark-James also ran 8 times for 63 yards. Isaiah Kesihk also had a big game with 14 receptions for 104 yards.
The Rams' defense put together a solid effort and totaled 6 sacks. Kam'ron Bizor led the Rams with 6 tackles and 2 sacks. Sonny Vitale also had a pair of sacks to go along with 4 tackles, and Hughes had 6 tackles and a pair of interceptions.
CCSF will look to keep its winning streak going next Saturday (Oct. 25) when the Rams travel to defending state champion College of San Mateo to take on the rival Bulldogs at 1 p.m.
