OROVILLE – An early game deficit was too much for City College of San Francisco to overcome as the Rams suffered a 34-14 loss at Butter College on Saturday.
Butte (3-0) led 14-0 at halftime and built up a 24-0 advantage before the Rams' offense came alive in the fourth quarter.
JT Foreman broke through for a 1-yard touchdown run at the 12:37 mark to close out a 7-play, 74-yard drive for the Rams. CCSF wrapped up the game's scoring when Michael Dabney ran in from 25 yards out to end an 11-play, 81-yard drive with 4:09 left in the contest.
CCSF actually outgained Butte on offense with 335 total yards compared the Roadrunners with 304 yards. But penalties (21 for 206 yards) and a pair of turnovers really hurt the Rams.
Quarterback Darius Clark-James completed 10 of 19 passes for 176 yards while Foreman led CCSF on the ground with 12 carries for 60 yards.
The Rams' defense totaled 3 sacks and forced a fumble. Sonny Vitale led with 7 tackles and a sack.
CCSF, now 1-2 overall, is back home next Saturday (Sep. 20) to host Fresno City College in a 2 p.m. non-league game.
