CCSF Athletics Mourns the Passing of Coast Conference Commissioner Dale Murray

The City College of San Francisco Athletics Department is deeply saddened by the passing of Dale Murray, a respected leader whose decades of service profoundly shaped community college athletics in California.

Dale devoted his professional life to supporting student-athletes and strengthening programs across the state. During his distinguished tenure at Cabrillo College, he served as a highly respected athletic director and campus leader, fostering a culture built on integrity, academic success, and competitive excellence. His leadership elevated the Seahawks athletic program and positively impacted generations of student-athletes and coaches.

As Commissioner of the Coast Conference within the California Community College Athletic Association, Dale was known for his steady guidance, fairness, and unwavering advocacy for opportunity. He strengthened conference governance, championed equity in competition, and mentored administrators throughout the state.

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, Dale was inducted into the 3C2A Athletic Directors Hall of Fame last June at the annual Tahoe convention — a fitting honor that reflected the immense respect he earned across California community college athletics.

On behalf of City College of San Francisco Athletics, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Coast Conference community. We are grateful for his leadership, his mentorship, and the lasting legacy he leaves behind. His impact on community college athletics will endure for years to come.
